24th September 1807 Letter Mentioned Captain Cameron

Archibald McMillan and family fonds : H-1099 (Image 253):

My dear Sir   Montreal  24th Sept. 1807

...17th in course -- the holder of the bill mentioned in my letter of the 10th ...so far from being disposed to be accommodating that I am sure he would be glad of an opportunity of exposing Capt. Cameron's...therefore it will be needless to offer him London bills in payment--as however the protested London Bill cannot be returned untill its maturity which cannot possibly be sooner than 20 days after this....the Gentleman who boutht the Tea and Indigo, the latter articles I believe I told you before does not belong to me but to Mr. Alexr. Cameron Mercht. here to whom I communicated whiat you wrote respecting it in your favor...Yours faithfully  A.M.

Dear Cousin Letter Of August 3, 1807

Archibald McMillan and family fonds : H-1099 (Image 251):

Montreal 3 August (1807)

 My dear Cousin

I wrote you some time ago on a subject which I was sure would afford you pleasure--this time I am sorry to have to mention something of a different nature - I mean the conduct of *Donald which you would have heard before now by his Brother John with whom I intened to write to you had he not left this unknown to me
John wished to take little Sandy along with him but the Boy himself was averse to it until his month was out in school till he heard from you which I thought was proper and if you desire it I shall be on the lookout...here or in Quebec... .  I would have taken him into my own house when Donald went away but that it would be confirming Donald's creditors in an opinion which they wished and tried to establish that I was connected with him in business--this idea probably Donald wished to convey to them with a ? to get credit--but luckily for me I kept clear of him. Indeed I was always afraid he was doing no good but I never imagined his affairs would turn out quite as bad as they did.  I have no news to communicate to you--I have not heard this year from the highlands....with best respects to you and Mrs. McMillan and your brother and family believe me

My dear Cousin,
affectionately

*Note: May be Donald Cameron

Alexander Cameron In Surinam

Archibald McMillan and family fonds : H-1099 (Image 128 and 129)
Letter (transcribed; original can be found before the transcript)

Surinam
30th December 1804

...forwarded to me by my friends in the Virgin Islands...you may have heard of my quitting the Virgin Islands which I did upwards of two years ago for this place...

Mr. Murphy of St. Thomas....

Your cousin Donald Cameron, the son of Captain Cameron Strone, and my brother Arch. arrived here a few weeks ago...

Everything has turned upside down since you left Lochaber..

It is my determination to use every means I can to get my family settled in America they were always very much attached to Clan don...which you mention in your letter, as well as to yours and Glenpeans families...

...I may pay you a visit there sometime in 1806 or perhaps before.

Pray do you know of your cousin Capt. McMillan, you say nothing of him.  I had no accounts of your cousin Arch. for several years, but I believe he is in the Island of Granada.  I beg my best compliments to Mr. McMillan Glenpean and family, and all our acquaintances in your quarter, remember me in the kindest manner to Mrs. McMillan, Miss. Tommy and family...

My dear Arch,
Yours affectionately,
Alexander Cameron
