Death Of James Cameron

"James Cameron, aged 60 years, a pioneer lumberman of Michigan, died at his home in Central Lake first of this week.  He was one of three brothers who came to Central Lake when they were young men, later starting the Cameron Lumber company and also running a general store.  In late years he had given up active business and had led a retired life.  One daughter, Bella, and two sons, Ralph and Allan, survive him.  His wife died about four years ago.  Mr. Cameron has many relatives living in different parts of the state."
Parents listed on his death record were Archabald Cameron and Agnes Liddel, both born in Scotland. James was born in Canada 19 September 1845 and died May 30, 1910.

Excerpt from the Herald Of Truth...June 1, 1892...:

A HORRIBLE DEATH
On the 15th of May in Boyne Falls, Mich., Mr. Hugh Cameron, proprietor of the Boyne Falls Handle Factory...his whole body crushed by a belt of the elevator. Mr. Cameron was a good man to the poor, but the one thing needful was put off to a more convenient season. His body taken to Canada for burial, where the parents of the deceased reside. He was about 35 years of age.

Marion Schantz Of Charlevoix - Car Accident Victim

Marian L. Cameron (Mrs. Paul Schantz) was the daughter of Donald & Anna (Cameron) Cameron. She was born in Sterling, Arenac Co., Michigan on June 9, 1898, and died in Charlevoix, Michigan, as a result of a car accident in 1957.

Paul Schantz was boarding with the Donald Cameron family in Flint, Genesee Co., Michigan, prior to his August 1920 marriage to Marian.

The first article, dated 18 February 1957, noted that Mrs. Paul Schantz, age 58, died as a result of injuries from an automobile accident the previous day. [Traverse City Record Eagle]

The second article, Thursday, 21 February 1957, in the Traverse City Record Eagle detailed the funeral services for Mrs. Paul Schantz in Charlevoix.

Also involved in the fatal car accident were Paul Schantz, the driver of the car in which his wife, Marian Schantz died, as well as Mrs. Bertha Jensen, a passenger in the Schantz car. The other car's passengers included Mr. & Mrs. Charles Robinson, Gordon Robinson and Mrs. Mary Hunt.

Marian Schantz was buried in Brookside Cemetery per the obituary above; however FindAGrave.com has a picture of Marian Schantz's gravestone at Norwood Lakeside Cemetery in Charlevoix County (Paul Schantz's gravestone is at Norwood Lakeside Cemetery as well).
