Cameron, Alexander.  Enlisted in company C, Fifth Infantry, Nov. 8, 1862, at Detroit, for 3 years, age 25.  Mustered Nov. 8, 1862.  Joined regiment at Camp Curtin, May 15, 1863.  Taken prisoner at Gettysburg, Pa., July 2, 1863.  Returned to regiment Dec. 20, 1864.  Mustered out at Jeffersonville, Ind., July 5, 1865.  Present residence, Soldier's Home, Milwaukee, Wis.

Ellen McCrea's 2nd Husband

From a January, 2012, post about Ellen (McCrea) Audley, Ellen McCrea Was Mrs. Beltz Before She Was Mrs. Audley:  I knew her as Ellen (McCrea) Audley.   (Ellen was the daughter of Isabelle CAMERON McCrea).  ...haven't identified the first name of Ellen's second husband, Mr. Audley. I'm hoping the 1940 census will reveal that information next year when it's released.

The 1940 census DID identify the name of Ellen's second husband:

Fold3.com (a paid site) has the following Civil War pension information for John F. Cameron's widow, Ann.  John died October 19, 1863, on a hospital boat on the Mississippi River near St. Louis, Missouri, of typhoid fever.

The soldier, John F. Cameron, was born in Canada to David and Mary Cameron.  He and his first wife, Sophia, lived in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, circa 1856, according to an affidavit by B. H. Soper.  Sophia died in childbirth.  John Cameron married his second wife, Ann, Bennett, on 24 June 1861, in Oshkosh, Winnebago, Wisconsin.  John and Ann had John J. Cameron, born April 4, 1862, in Oshkosh.

The Bible records stated that Winfield Scott Cameron was born November 9, 1856, in Cleveland, Ohio; Anna Orilla Cameron was born near Lake Superior, Marquette, Michigan on May 2, 1859 and Albert Henry Cameron was born on March 24, 1861, near Oshkosh, Wisconsin.  

In the 1860 census, John Cameron was living in Oshkosh, Winnebago, Wisconsin, with Louise, age 25, born in Maine, Winfield, age 3, born in Ohio, and Aurelia, age 1, born in Michigan.  Marion Taylor, age 17, of England, was also living in the household.

Page 53 of the Pension files mentioned that Anna was adopted and lived with William Hogoboom near Oshkosh and had removed to Rockford, Floyd County, Iowa.  Page 70 mentioned that she was adopted in Illinois.

Adelia was the daughter of Lillas (Cameron) McLaughlin, and granddaughter of Duncan and Ellen (Cameron) Cameron:

MCDONNELL -- Adelia McDonnell, 406 W. Eldridge, age 51, died Tuesday, May 25, 1948, at the residence.  Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M., Friday, May 28, 1948, from the Groves & Co. Funeral Home, Saginaw at Fifth Ave.  Death was due to complications after a sudden illness.  She was born in Sterling, Mich., March 7, 1897, and came to Flint 29 years ago from Duluth, Minn.  Surviving are:  Husband, Alexander; son, Thomas Kilpatrick of Kalamazoo; 4 sisters, Mrs. Jessie Dean of St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. Rachel Brandt of Flint, and Mrs. Inez Hagen and Mrs. Isabel Buxton both of Superior, Wis.; brother, Lawrence McLaughlin of Superior, Wis.; several nieces and nephews.

I knew her as Ellen (McCrea) Audley.  Her sister Mary's obituary of April 10, 1928, identified her as Mrs. Beltz of Chicago.  (Ellen and Mary were the daughters of Isabelle CAMERON McCrea)
