Desert Sun, Number 172, 20 April 1957

Lumberman. Wife Visit for Fifth Time in DHS

Mr. and Mrs. W A. Cameron, prominent lumberman from Victoria. B.C.. are at Desert Hot Springs for their fifth year at Silver Sands Apartments. Their visitors for the weekend were their daughter and son-in-law Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Harbord from Victoria. Also with them were Mr. and Mrs. William Kiernan of North Hollywood, associate with Columbia Studios. Being great lovers of the desert, Mr. and Mrs. Cameron are now owners of large parcels of land which will be known as “Camhilm Heights,” "Camhilm Square" and "Camhilm Crest." They are planning a home here in the future.

Loyl James Cameron

One of the earliest names encountered when starting my research was Loyl Cameron.  A cousin (1st cousin 2x removed) and member of the LDS Church, included Loyl/Loyal as the son of my great-grandparents, Donald and Anna (Cameron) Cameron in the LDS database.  I was excited to see my family included (this was circa 1987) and also puzzled because Loyl was born in May of 1900, and my grandmother, Beatrice, whose parents were Donald and Anna, was born on the 4th of July 1900. Clearly, Loyl was misplaced.  I wrote a letter to this cousin (she was in her 80's and it was 1987) and thought the matter would be quickly resolved.  Nope.  The cousin insisted that I was mistaken and that was the end of that as far as she was concerned.

Jane Louise Cameron

Los Angeles Herald, Number 146, 19 April 1916:

Married Ex-Convict, Dies Broken-Hearted
Syracuse, N. Y.. April 19.—Jane Louise Cameron, the 20-year-old girl who eloped from Auburn a year ago with an ex-convict, died in Detroit of a broken heart. She married a man just out of prison, confident that she could make him respected and honored, and all those who had known her well turned their backs on her. Cameron, who was 40, got work in Syracuse. They were ostracised there and at last former Warden Osborne of Sing Sing, the only friend of the ex-convict. sent the Camerons to Detroit. There the man got work, but his wife, still brooding over her family’s resentment, the friends who had sneered at her, wasted away quietly and died.

Rosella In The Middle

From the Los Angeles Herald, Number 18, 21 November 1914:

MARITAL TRAGEDY CAUSES POLICE TO SEEK BABY GIRL
Loving "daddy” and "muvver” with all her childish heart, pretty, 4-year-old Rosella May Cameron, who, it is said, has played the part of shuttlecock between her estranged parents for some months, today was sought by police detectives who also searched for her mother, Bessie Cameron, and a man named Finley Johnson. Mrs. Cameron and Johnson, who are said by the detectives to have spirited the little girl away, are sought on a complaint issued by the city prosecutor's office. Back of this charge, it is said, a suit for divorce is about to be filed by Harry Cameron against his wife. The troubles of the Camerons, it is said, grew out of a girlhood romance of Mrs. Cameron and Johnson.

Cameron...were married about six years ago, it is said, and they were happy for at least two years. Then trouble came. Johnson, who was said to have been an oldtime sweetheart of Mrs. Cameron’s, according to Cameron, renewed his acquaintanceship with her. Some months ago, unable to agree, the Camerons separated, the wife taking the little girl. She refused, it is said, to allow her husband to see the child. She also brought suit for divorce, but this suit never was tried. Cameron retained Detective Samuel L. Browne and Mrs. Cameron and Johnson were “shadowed,” the detectives say. Detectives attempted to serve divorce papers upon Mrs. Cameron, but she flitted from place to place, eluding service. Then a charge was made on which a warrant was issued and the police are seeking Johnson and Mrs. Cameron, who thus far have managed elude all pursuit.
