Following graduation she taught elementary education in Mount Clemens and Ypsilanti, Michigan for 3 years. She then married Rudolph McCulloch and did research with Dr. Douglas Sprunt at Duke University while her husband was in medical school. In her later years she worked in the library archives of Eastern Michigan University until her retirement in 1976.  She was preceded in death by her father, John Haviland; mother, Ellen Wortley Haviland Longnecker; step father, Alexander Longnecker; and former husband, Dr. Rudolph Powers McCulloch.
