Alex and Mary (Harris) Cameron In Michigan

Published in the Detroit Free Press, October 10, 1895:

Ovid, Mich--Oct. 9 -- Mary Harris Cameron has begun divorce proceedings against husband Alex G. Cameron, now a convict serving his second term at Ionia.  They were clandestinely married at Windsor, Canada, four years ago and have two little girls, one only a few months old.  [Transcribed from an online copy viewed at the Library of Michigan]

According to the Saginaw News, published April 8, 1895, Alex Cameron was convicted of stealing clover seed from the Ovid elevator and sentenced to 18 months at Ionia.  The January 19, 1895 issue of the Saginaw News stated that Alex G. Cameron of Chesaning walked into a police station in Detroit complaining about $18 stolen from him and was promptly arrested because he was wanted in the Ovid theft.  His father said he would not help his son out of his difficulty.  Note:  Alex may have been publishing a newspaper in Chesaning, adopting the profession of his father.
