Leaving Loch-Linnhe the road goes along the margin of Loch-Eil to its head; passing Corpach, or the field of dead bodies, the church and churchyard of Kilmallie are on the right. There a handsome obelisk has been erected to the memory of Colonel Cameron of Fassfern who was killed at the head of the 79th or Cameron Highlanders at Waterloo. A little farther on is the residence of his brother, Sir Duncan Cameron of Fassfern. Sir Ewen Cameron, his father, was created a baronet by his Majesty after the Colonel's death.
The drive along the shores of Loch-Eil is not without beauty, but the scenery has little variety; looking back, however, towards Fort William, when near the head of the Loch the best view of Ben Nevis is seen which can anywhere be obtained. [Source - The Lakes Of Scotland]
